IfEF Initiatives

In 2020, IfEF, along with local partners and organizers, presented the first annual Alabama Science Festival. This week-long series of events  showcased  science and technology as an integral part of nearly every aspect of life in our communities. More than 15,000 members of our communities participated in the virtual events.

Support for Schools and Education Initiatives

Picture
The Innovation for Education Foundation has provided support for thousands of underprivileged students. We accomplished this in part by providing immersive STEM programs and teaching entrepreneurial skills that allowed students to develop business acumen. In addition to our science festival initiatives through our partnership with the MIT Science Festival Alliance, IfEF works with dedicated educators in high-poverty communities to expose students to the opportunities that education and hard work will allow them to enjoy.

In 2018 IfEF funding was used to take 10 students from one of the most financially challenged communities in the United States on a trip that included Yosemite Park, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. These were all children who had never been more than 75 miles from their home. Nearly all of these students lived in almost third-world conditions with no running water or electricity in their homes. By exposing these children to a world they had never experienced, such as meeting their U.S. Senator, visiting Independence Hall and standing in awe of Yosemite Valley, their eyes were opened to the opportunities that education provides.

IfEF also provides support to science-education programs. Dinosaur Earth is an outreach that offers teaching tools to educators, students and their families.
